90% of foster youth suffer from emotional trauma and do not have an outlet to find the healing they need.
More Than Conquerors (MTC) serves foster youth, adoptive and kinship families, and trafficked youth ages 2 – 25 in San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. With the gift of surfing, MTC provides our youth with the opportunity to heal from trauma through joyful, empowering experiences.
Through trauma-informed surf therapy and mentorship, we help youth build resilience, discover healthy coping tools, and choose positive paths that prevent the destructive impact of drugs, alcohol, and other harmful alternatives that youth facing adversity so often turn to.
We achieve this by hosting monthly surf events, March through December, that provide a safe space for our communities to come together and heal during a carefree day at the beach. The goal of our surf events is simple: Make sure every child, teen, and young adult who surfs with us knows that they have a home and a purpose, and that they are loved.
